Our pigs are allowed to exhibit their natural behaviors, free from confinement. Low stress handling techniques lead to higher quality meat and more humane treatment.
Hogs raised on pasture eat a more diverse diet than those raised in confinement and result in meat that is more nutritious and delicious. Hogs are also exceptional at soil aeration, pasture maintenance, and shrub clearing. Pigs, for instance, were created with little “shovels” on the tip of their nose to aid them in digging for food and making nests in the ground. This simple act of digging, or tilling, helps loosen compacted soil, aerate the soil and stirs up the ancient seed bed allowing new plants and grasses to start growing. A great way to return our chemical contaminated dirt into a soil that is once again filled with the right microbes for it to produce as nature intended. Did you know that a teaspoon of productive soil should generally contain between 100 million and 1 billion bacteria? That is as much mass as two cows per acre. A ton of microscopic bacteria may be active in each acre of soil.
Our pigs are humanely raised and spend their days communally rooting around, rolling in the mud, and expressing natural piggy behavior to their heart’s content. They enjoy a vegetarian diet through eating organic, non-GMO grains, as well as grubs and wild forage supplied by Mother Nature.
Brenneman Farms Brand will ensure you that our hogs are: raised in open fields or our woods, rooting for grubs, saplings and forages in their natural environment, offered a non-GMO, antibiotic, and steroid-free grain for their dietary needs.
